Statutory Benefit Payments: DWP issues proposed increases from April 2017

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) released a written ministerial statement at the end of November detailing their proposed increases for statutory benefit payments, which include sick pay and maternity pay and associated payments. The increases will take effect from 10 April 2017. Those weekly payments of interest to employers are as follows:

  • Statutory sick pay (SSP) will be increased from £88.45 to £89.35
  • Both statutory maternity pay (SMP) and statutory paternity pay (SPP) will be increased from £139.58 to £140.98
  • Both statutory shared parental pay (ShPP) and statutory adoption pay (SAP) will also be increased from £139.58 to £140.
