Melanie Smith LLB - Managing Director
Mel qualified as a solicitor in 1992. She first trained with a medium sized firm working in their offices in Surrey and Covent Garden. She continued practising there until she joined Morgan Russell as a partner in July 1999.
Mel was instrumental in ensuring an early move, in 2002, to the then new LLP business structure made available to solicitor practices. She led the internal legal team transferring the business of Morgan Russell to the LLP. She was appointed managing partner in 2007. She then worked with international business advisers Dixcart International Limited to form Dixcart Legal Limited, authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, launched on 1 May 2014. Dixcart Legal is an Alternative Business Structure (“ABS”).
The ABS structure enables lawyers and non-lawyers to work together, allowing flexibility in terms of the business organisation and management.
Mel has over 20 years' experience as a solicitor working in all aspects of business law. Her specialism is in dealing with commercial matters, including those which are dispute related, and she has built a strong employment law practice.
Mel's clients include PLCs and UK subsidiaries of large multi-nationals.
